Sesame Sticks

Whilst living in Costa Rica I used to ride to the beach each day to acquire a particular salad, which I enjoyed with a fresh berry smoothie.

It was a 20k round trip, so that should give you some indication of how good this salad was.

When trying to recreate it I swiftly discovered one of the most vital ingredients, Sesame Sticks by Bio-land are only available in Costa Rica.  Alas! Not to be discouraged I set out to create my own version of the snack, and they’re delicious.

Grab a handful when you’re on the run or use as croutons in a salad. You can also dip them in chocolate to make a sweet, addictive treat.

Mmmm; nibbly.

1 & ¼ c flour
½ cup sesame seeds
2 & ½ tablespoons oil
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ to ½ cup water
Extra oil for baking and brushing
Salt for sprinkling

Blend all ingredients except water. Slowly add as much water as you need to create a dough. Roll out and cut into the desired shape (I made sticks, circles, flat crackers, and small crouton-sized diamonds. Place on a greased baking tray. Brush with oil, bake for 15 to 20 minutes, turning ½ way until golden all over. Sprinkle with salt and serve.
